Providing Care for Vulnerable Children in South Africa

South Africa is home to approximately 2.5 million vulnerable children, many facing abandonment, orphanhood, or uncertain futures.

Baby Home Durban North offers a safe haven for abandoned and orphaned babies, as well as infants placed for adoption. Beyond providing essential care, we use our social media platforms to advocate for adoption—not as a last resort, but as a valued and intentional part of family planning.

At the heart of Baby Home Durban North are Bjorn and Jo Teunissen, dedicated “crisis parents” who run Baby Home Durban North. Alongside a team of compassionate caregivers, they provide love, stability, and the best possible start in life for these little ones.

Bjorn and Jo, both educators with a deep passion for children, began their adoption journey in 2014 when they welcomed their son, Emmanuel, from a local Child and Youth Care Centre. This life-changing experience inspired them to open Baby Home Durban North. With support from The Peace Agency, they brought their vision to life, officially opening the doors in December 2015. Since then, they have cared for over 100 babies with unwavering dedication.
