Our Key Initiatives

Providing Care for Vulnerable Children in South Africa

South Africa is home to approximately 2.5 million vulnerable children, many facing abandonment, orphanhood, or uncertain futures.

Baby Home Durban North offers a safe haven for abandoned and orphaned babies, as well as infants placed for adoption. Beyond providing essential care, we use our social media platforms to advocate for adoption—not as a last resort, but as a valued and intentional part of family planning.

At the heart of Baby Home Durban North are Bjorn and Jo Teunissen, dedicated “crisis parents” who run Baby Home Durban North. Alongside a team of compassionate caregivers, they provide love, stability, and the best possible start in life for these little ones.

Bjorn and Jo, both educators with a deep passion for children, began their adoption journey in 2014 when they welcomed their son, Emmanuel, from a local Child and Youth Care Centre. This life-changing experience inspired them to open Baby Home Durban North. With support from The Peace Agency, they brought their vision to life, officially opening the doors in December 2015. Since then, they have cared for over 100 babies with unwavering dedication.

Your support through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness helps provide hope, care, and brighter futures for these children.

BABYLINE

A Lifeline for Mothers in Need:               082 069 9067

BabyLine is dedicated to supporting vulnerable mothers by providing counselling, guidance, and safe alternatives for those struggling to care for their babies.

Mothers can reach out to BabyLine via phone, WhatsApp, or social media, where experienced counsellors  are available to offer immediate assistance.

Rather than only addressing immediate physical needs, Baby Line connects mothers with local organizations, community members, and support networks that can provide long-term care and resources. Our growing national network includes non-profit and faith-based organizations, as well as compassionate individuals committed to helping women navigate difficult circumstances.

Through counselling, support, and meaningful connections, Baby Line ensures that mothers have access to the help they need, offering guidance in caring for their babies or exploring safe alternative options.

Providing Care and Education to Children in Hammarsdale

Recognizing the urgent need for a safe and nurturing early childhood development centre in the rural Woody Glen community near Hammarsdale, one of our dedicated Babyhome carers, Thando Dlamini, helped us establish the Hammarsdale Child Care Centre. It has now been running for 10 years.

The centre provides daily care and Early Childhood Development to 20 babies and toddlers, many of whom come from vulnerable backgrounds. A significant number of their mothers are still completing their education, and we aim to support them by ensuring their children are cared for in a safe, loving, and stimulating environment.
